- The most common side effects associated with Imodium are mild dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, mild stomach pain and tiredness. In relieving diarrhea, the medication also can cause constipation.
- Serious but rare Imodium side effects call for immediate medical attention. These include severe stomach pain, worsening diarrhea and vomiting.
- Other serious reactions that need medical attention include symptoms of fever, sore throat, headache and a severe rash with blistering and peeling.
- Rarely, some people have an allergic reaction to Imodium. Signs include difficulty breathing, rash and itching, hives, swelling and severe dizziness.
- People should not take Imodium if they are allergic to loperamide, are taking an antibiotic that may be causing diarrhea, or are experiencing bloody or tarry stools.
