- 1). Look at the speaker or speaker documentation for information on the speaker. Speakers usually have impedance information and wattage information stamped on the back of the magnet of the speaker.
- 2). Check to see how the speakers are wired. If one speaker has an impedance of 4 ohms, then that speaker will have a 4-ohm impedance if it is the only speaker connected to the source. If you connect two 4-ohm speakers in series, then the impedances will add together to make 8 ohms. However, if these two speakers are wired in parallel, then the total impedance will be one-half the impedance value of one speaker, or 2 ohms.
- 3). Write down the speakers' wattage. Calculating the total speaker wattage of multiple speakers requires adding the wattages together. The total wattage of two 200-watt speakers is 400 watts. This rule applies to both series- and parallel-wiring configurations.
