An In-Depth Look at Snoring Treatments - Includes Snoring Products and Procedures Often Overlooked

Most people who finally realize they have an issue with snoring (usually through the disgruntled complaints of a slightly-or perhaps severely-agitated spouse, friend or family member) try to brush it off as if it's no big deal.
As things escalate, however, it's common for them to try the first solutions that come to mind: breathe right nasal strips, the adjustment of sleeping posture, etc.
While these solutions can make a major difference for some, they can do absolutely nothing for others.
Frustrated victims of snoring will often turn to a doctor at this point, but there are a wide variety of treatment options the individual has likely yet to consider.
Instead of simply altering sleeping posture, it can often be much more beneficial to seek out specialty pillows (anti-snoring pillows) that target sufferers of snoring, sleep apnea, insomnia, etc.
There are a number of quality products available, many of which can be purchased over the internet.
As an alternative to breathe right nasal strips, consider trying a nasal dilator and/or an anti-snoring spray.
Also focus on eliminating any nasal congestion due to allergies or cold symptoms as this can many times be the main culprit in chronic snorers.
If snoring relief remains elusive, making simple lifestyle changes can often be the missing ingredient:
  • Avoid alcohol and medicine that make you drowsy before bed.
These can relax the throat muscles and cause snoring.
  • Get adequate exercise.
Not only is it good for overall health, it also strengthens the throat muscles and thus reduces snoring.
  • Quit smoking.
Smoke is an irritant and can further aggravate snoring by causing inflammation of the airway.
If at this point nothing seems to be helping, it might be time to look toward alternative treatments and medical procedures:
  • Acupuncture can often help those whose snoring is caused by nasal congestion.
  • Over-the-counter mouth guards or prescribed mandibular advancement splints can adjust the jaw to open the airway during sleep.
  • Beneficial medical procedures include Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA), the Pillar Procedure and more.
  • A mixture of pseudoephedrine and domperidone is effective in treating/managing the symptoms of over 90% of chronic snorers, but is not readily available in all countries.
Through these methods, the treatment of snoring goes from confusing and frustrating to hopeful and highly manageable.
If, however, chronic snoring causes extreme fatigue during the day and long pauses in breathing during sleep, it's important to consult a doctor as this may signify a serious condition known as "sleep apnea.
