This true incident happened to me last summer (2009) and I've been mulling it around in my head ever since, trying to make sense of it. Finally, I think I am able to put in in words that others will understand. This took place in Northwest New York State. My friend and I were driving on an old country road to pick up another friend. I knew the road well, for I've driven up and down it many times before.


There were no other homes or buildings on this stretch. But on this particular humid night, something odd happened.

My car was starting up a steep incline, and to the left there was a small guardrail and then a deep drop-off that led down into a narrow valley that stopped abruptly at a tall tree-line. It was completely black outside except for my headlights. My friend poked me slightly and said, "I wonder what that's all about?" He was pointing to my left. I glanced over and to my amazement saw the entire valley engulfed in red, blue and green lights. The blue lights seemed to stretch out over the field in some type of grid pattern. Each blue light connected to another in a straight line going in all directions, like a calender. The red lights were at each intersecting line. And the green lights were scattered haphazardly about.

I had never witnessed such a sight and it was so enormous that it probably could've been seen from space! Judging from our distance, each round orb of light had to of been at least two to three feet across, although from where we were, they were just tiny specks.

We gazed at it in wonder, and once we picked up our friend and returned back, she too was astonished by this and insisted that nothing was down there. In fact, she had just traveled up the road earlier when the sun was still out and she was certain it had been all but a barren field even then!

Both of these friends are skeptics, and every time I've tried to bring up anything paranormal and the like, they've both dismissed it, either coming up with a logical explanation or insisting they simply didn't want to talk about it. But there was no denying the strange grid-like patterns splayed across the fields that night and we all were witness to it!

The next day when we drove my friend back to her house along that lonely stretch of road, the narrow valley was once again as barren and blank as could be. What on earth (or open space, sky, universe) did we see that night?
