- 1). Sand all the edges off your 2' piece of 1/4" x 4" wood board. You want the corners to take on a rounded shape and for the sides to round as well. When you run your finger along the edges of your board it should feel completely smooth with no flat planes.
- 2). Measure and mark the center of your board as it runs lengthwise and across its width. Draw a line from edge to edge of the board through the center (and end to end) so you have two lines crossing.
- 3). Place one end of your wooden pull door handle on the intersection of the center lines and screw it into place. Make sure the handle runs straight along the center down the length of the board and attach that as well. Your handle will be slightly off center giving you more control over the trowel when you use it.
- 4). Apply an even coat of bowling wax over every part of the trowel. Rub the wax into the wood with a clean polishing cloth using circular motions. Let the coat dry and repeat. You will want to apply 10 coats to the wood. This will give your DIY finishing concrete trowel a waterproof finish that is hard and smooth as glass.
