Since the time Thomas Edison bestowed us with his incredible invention called Camera, it has played a major role in keeping the proof of existence in the life of middle class and upper middle class family. They record the moments of happiness, sorrow, elation, exasperation and other human emotions that engulf the daily lives. In short camera was the device that stilled your bitter sweet memories in a frame. But it was not before 1939 when E D Phinney patented the first Television Camera system which was installed all around the neighborhood to watch who has appeared at the doorstep, the idea of camera being the security system of our space did not occur to human mind. Since then it has been a constant evolution of the home security system.

The security camera patent granted to ED Phinney was essentially the first outdoor camera with a television installed with it. But if we go back to the eighteenth century we will see that usage of camera as security camera was already in the system. Well known banks had the system of secretly photographing their customers whoever came in and out of the banks. So the systems of both indoor camera and outdoor camera were already exiting by then. But as mentioned before, the major revolutionary change intervened by ED Phinney for Television Camera gave way to the invention of Outdoor CCTV Camera. In 1969 a US patent was granted to Marie Brown and Albert Brown who coupled the security outdoor camera system with Video Cassettes. Around that time the video cassettes were invented and great minds never stop to cease the opportunity. Thus the world was gifted with another outstanding invention. These were Closed Circuit Television camera which fed constant footage to the videotape that recorded those footages for future references. However the most catchy part of the Brown's security system was that it was equipped enough to secure a residence. Thus it paved the path for indoor camera or dome camera.

Indoor cameras are installed within the houses so that whoever comes and goes inside or outside can be recorded. Since Outdoor CCTV Camera took up some space and could be easily noticeable in smaller enclosed places, the indoor camera was given the shape of a dome and thus the name dome camera. Dome camera has extremely strong focal point and thus does a great job of surveillance really quietly. The power of the dome camera was less before as they were put in enclosed places. But now with budding society complexes all around the countries, traditional Outdoor CCTV Camera is being heavily replaced by them.

But the real mind blowing explosion in the CCTV Security Cameras came during the 90s, when Steven Sasson invented the digital photography system. A device named Digital Multiplexer was then implemented with the Outdoor CCTV Camera and the indoor Camera too, to give digital feeds of the footage. The pixels were clearer and the resolution was revolutionary.

Now with the high affordability of Computer systems, digital feeds have become cheaper and footages can be stored for months in the hard drives of the installed computer. Thus goes the story of the camera becoming the sentinel of your spaces from merely being the bearer of your memories.
