A duff shot is a shot where your club hits the ground before striking your ball.
It causes shorter distance and a bad duff will make your ball travel just a very short distance.
Duff shots are also very annoying to hit since they can basically cost you one extra stroke or even worse if you happen to find a hazard.
So what are the causes for this problem? 1# Having the ball too forward in your stance This is definitely the number one cause for duffing.
By having the ball too forward you either hit the ground at the correct spot which is now too early or you are forced to flip your wrists or do some other type of move to be even able to hit the ball.
This is quite easy to fix since you only have to move the ball backwards in your stance and that will help you a lot.
2# Not transferring the weight properly If you fail to properly transfer your weight during the swing it can cause you to duff the ball more often than hoped for.
You really have to focus on moving your weight back during the backswing and to the front during downswing.
This will also add some real distance to your shots which is a nice big bonus.
You should hit the driving range and really focus on weight shifting.
One great drill here is to make a really extreme weight shifts for a while to really get your body used to them.
You can for example take a step forward during your follow through.
this forces you to transfer that weight or you can't take the step at all.
Fixing these problems should make duff shots a rarity in your game and greatly increase your score if you are now suffering from it.
