Instructions for Toklo Laminate Flooring

    Preparing the Floor

    • After purchasing your Toklo laminate flooring, store the unopened panels flat. Allow the boxes to remain in your home at the normal temperature and humidity for at least two days so that the locking system does not warp during or after installation. The floor should be kept completely dry when installing it; Toklo laminate flooring cannot be installed in bathrooms, basements prone to flooding or other damp rooms. The panels may be placed over vinyl, linoleum and ceramic tiles as well as existing wood flooring. Remove all carpeting and carpet brackets prior to installation. For use on concrete or slab floors, lay down a polyethylene film before installing the panels. If the Toklo flooring is placed on a heated floor or near a heat system, it may expand and shift over time. Extra care must be taken when the flooring is exposed to such elements to avoid cracking and uneven surfaces.

    Installing Toklo Laminate Flooring

    • Before beginning the installation process, check the panels for defects or other problems. Install the flooring parallel to the longest length of the room. Begin laying the panels down in the left-hand corner of the room and work your way along the length before moving to the right. Leave a 1/4-inch gap between the flooring and all walls to allow for expansion. After placing the first panel, install the second by fitting the second panel's tongue into the first panel's groove at a 30-degree angle. Cut the last panel of each row with a saw to fit the space, and use this remainder to start the next row. Assemble each row entirely before moving on to the next. Once a row is finished, secure it to the previous row by tapping it into place with a wood tapping block and a hammer. Before installing the last row, cut the flooring lengthwise so that it fits snugly, still preserving a 1/4-inch expansion gap.

    Cleaning and Maintenance

    • While Toklo laminate flooring is moisture-resistant, it still must be kept as dry as possible. Clean with a dust mop or vacuum to remove dust, dirt and dry messes. To clean spots, use a damp cloth or mop with as little water as possible. Afterward, dry the mopped areas thoroughly with a soft cloth. Prevent wet feet and shoes from ruining the Toklo flooring by placing a mat and shoe rack next to each exterior entrance. Wipe up spills immediately, but do not use soap-based cleaners or polish on the floor. Abrasive pads should never be used on the laminate flooring as they can destroy the moisture seal entirely. For stubborn spots that water will not clean, use a few drops of nail polish remover on a soft rag to gently wipe away the unwanted mess in a circular motion. Install felt pads on the bottoms of furniture legs and rearrange heavy pieces often to avoid leaving indentations. Keep sharp and pointy objects, including high heels, away from the flooring as much as possible.
