- Use popular culture to come up with a variety of ideas. Dress up as Prince William and his wife, Kate. Or go further back in time to dress up as JFK and Jackie Kennedy or Sonny and Cher. Television shows also give plenty of ideas; for instance, the two of you can dress as Agents Mulder and Scully from "The X-Files" or Jim and Pam from "The Office." Other ideas include Wilma and Fred from "The Flintstones," Neo and Trinity from "The Matrix" and Gomez and Morticia Addams from "The Addams Family."
- Coming up with funny pairings from everyday life doesn't take long. For instance, while one of you dresses as a nerd, the other can dress as a computer. The two of you can also dress as the personification of the phrase "Blind leading the blind" by holding hands throughout the night, wearing sunglasses and grasping canes. Another funny idea involves one person dressing as a mirror and the other as a vain beauty queen.
- Scare onlookers by dressing as a horrifying couple. Turn the most innocent of ideas -- such as a newlywed couple or a prom king and queen -- into gross and disgusting costumes by adding blood, guts and makeup to the looks. Play the role of victim as your boyfriend dresses as Leatherface or Freddy Krueger. Or have your boyfriend wear a vampire costume while you dress as his hapless victim. Or dress up as a werewolf couple or a pair of ghouls.
- To really make everyone take notice of how much the two of you adore each other, use a cute costume idea. Have your boyfriend wear a big "X" on his shirt while you wear a big "O" to symbolize hugs and kisses. Or dress as a variety of fairy tale couples, such as Cinderella and Prince Charming, Rapunzel and her prince, or Little Mermaid and her love interest. Other cute ideas include a flower and a bee, and Peter Pan and Wendy.
