How to Turn Off an iPod When It's Locked Up

    • 1). Toggle the Hold switch on top of your iPod to the left and right a few times. Then leave the Hold switch in the unlock position. If your iPod does not function again after doing this, proceed to the next step.

    • 2). Press and hold two buttons on your iPod. For iPod models with a click wheel (iPod Nano 1G to 5G, iPod Classic and iPod Mini 1G and 2G), press and hold the Center Select key and the Menu key for about 10 seconds--until the device restarts and you see the Apple logo appear on the screen. On iPod models with a touch wheel and scroll wheel, press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons for about 10 seconds--the two buttons just below the Off button--until you notice that the device has restarted. For iPod Touch models, press down and hold the Menu and Sleep buttons--one at the top right edge and one at the bottom center of the iPod face--for about 10 seconds until the device restarts.

    • 3). Turn your iPod on and off again to make sure it is functioning properly. If it still appears frozen, try charging its battery for about 30 minutes.

    • 4). Turn off your iPod as normal after you get it functioning again.
