St.
Dominic's Church or the Dominican Church in Macau is situated in the centre of the Leal Senado Plaza.
Built in 1687 by Spanish Dominion friars with reminisce of Portuguese, Filipino and Spanish architectural design, this yellow and green church is considered one of the most beautiful in Macau.
The church was originally built in wood; however, with renovations being a necessity, it was rebuilt in 1828 in stone in a Jesuit mannerism.
A sacristy, a Sacred Museum as well as a monastery that does not exist any longer accompanied St.
Dominic's Church which that stands tall in the plaza, which was once a marketplace.
However, through its journey, the Dominican Church faced hard times and once was used by the government as barracks, stables and even as administration offices.
However, following further renovations, the church was reopened in 1997 with the inclusion of a museum housed on three floors.
This museum houses various artworks in the form of paintings, sculptures, and ornaments which exemplifies the history of Asian Roman Catholic churches.

Dominic's Church is known for its devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
This is evident in the form of the large sculpture of the Madonna and Child found in the alter piece.
