- 1). Disarm your alarm system before beginning. Depending on your model, you may need to enter a code.
- 2). Remove the motion sensor unit from its wall mount. Depending on the design of the unit, you may need to unscrew holding screws on the mount with a screwdriver.
- 3). Inspect the casing of the unit to find a battery compartment door. The compartment door may be marked with a battery symbol. If there is a screw holding the door closed, remove the screw with the screwdriver and slide or lift the door open. Remove the battery.
- 4). Insert the new battery, paying attention to the positive and negative terminals. Verify that the battery is placed in the right direction inside the compartment.
- 5). Replace the compartment door. Remount the sensor. Contact your alarm system company if the system is linked to a central center and let the company know you will be doing a "system test" in the next few minutes.
- 6). Arm the alarm system and move around in front of the sensor. If the sensor does not activate the alarm, check the unit for a power button or switch and move it to the "On" position. Try again to trigger the sensor; if the sensor triggers the alarm the battery installation worked.
