- 1). Open the door at a 90-degree angle to the threshold and use a doorstop to hold it in place.
- 2). Remove the three to four Phillips head screws from the top of the threshold by turning them counterclockwise with a screwdriver. Pull the vinyl strip from the center of the threshold with a pair of needle-nose pliers if you do not see any visible screws. Turn the two Phillips head adjusting screws -- located at the connecting points of the threshold and the door frame -- counterclockwise.
- 3). Push the end of a flat head screwdriver between the lower lip of the threshold and the edge of the sub-floor facing the outside of your home. Continue pushing until the threshold sits 1/8-inch above the sub-floor. Slide the blade of a metal putty knife along the lifted area to separate the sealant sitting under the front of the threshold.
- 4). Slide the blade of a reciprocating saw into the gap created by the screwdriver. Start the saw. Work the moving blade underneath the metal threshold to break the bind between the threshold and the caulk sealing it to the sub-floor. Remove the screw from under the threshold.
- 5). Pull the threshold toward the exterior of the house. Hit the threshold with a hammer if it remains in place. Push one end of a pry bar under the front edge of the threshold. Pry up forcefully to create a slight bend in the center of the threshold. Alternate, hammering and prying the threshold until it breaks free of the door frame.
