Streamers tend to be a continual party favorite, and for good reason.
Whimsically fresh, wide color ranges, crepe paper streamers are a wonderful staple with numerous uses.
The most popular use is as a ceiling decoration for special occasions.
Taking the streamer, attach the loose end to your starting point with a paint-safe tape.
Your starting point is usually a corner or centerpiece on the ceiling, such as a light fixture from which something will hang.
If you have a pinata you might have streamers hanging away from it.
Once attached simply rotate the streamer as you let it out and then attach to your next point.
You can hang multiple diagonal rows that are perpendicular to each other, make a sunburst with the streamers leading away from a central ceiling fixture, or simply hang at random.
Being the decorator, you can manipulate streamers to get whatever effect you desire.
Crepe streamers are perfect for making your own artificial flowers as well.
The soft, wrinkly texture gives crepe paper flowers more character than typical paper flowers and the fact that streamers come in such a convenient width allows you to create flowers with ease.
For beginners a simple rose or carnation is easiest to imitate using the paper streamers.
With hot glue gun ready take your streamer and, holding the end firmly in place, begin to wrap the streamer around in a spiral fashion.
If your flower will be large you'll want to glue as you go; if its smaller you could simply glue the end when you have the desired shape.
To get the flower-like appearance you'll need to gather the bottom as you go.
If you have a little more time and want to imitate simple-looking field flowers you can cut petals from the crepe paper and then assemble with the glue gun.
Be sure to make the end facing the stem a little wide so that you can gather it to give the flower a more life-like appearance.
Also, unless you're purposely aiming for a somewhat abstract flower, be sure to cut your flower petals all going the same direction so that the crinkled lines all flow inward towards the stem.
Bows can also be made with streamers, and feel much fresher than plastic ones in the spring and summer months.
You could either imitate a typical Christmas bow, folding the crepe streamer over and over, creating triangles that form the finished star, or you could simple fold the crepe paper at random and make your own design.
