Imagine making friend with someone at an event and you decide to visit them for the first time or they decide to visit you for the first time in your home.
Right on the first visit, you open the door to welcome this new friend and all he or she does is push you on the side.
He or she comfortably finds his or her way to your living room and sits on the most comfortable sofa and puts those feet on one of the coffee tables.
How do you feel? Invaded, disrespected, display of inappropriate behavior, and all those words that you can think of.
Unfortunately that is the case in many social media circles today.
Social networking and social media as we are all enjoying today is a place to connect and make new friends while professionally finding proper ways to promote your products in a way that does not offend others or be seen as aggressive.
On the contrary, the opposite is more obvious than what is truly expected of many business owners on line.
In any business, there are ways to do things right.
Below are a few right steps to start a business that I have come to learn and found effective: 1.
Choose a niche and study them to know them well so that they will trust you and believe you have their interest at heart.
2.
Set up systems that support your business well in order to have control over your business 3.
Choose the right marketing strategies that get your message well across to the right audiences and ...
4.
Establish yourself as a respected expert and authority person in your industry These are just a few that can set you on the right path to business success.
In the same way, social media is a place to socialize and make friends with people all over the world.
You also have the chance in social media to achieve all the above if you work it the right way.
Some practical ways you can achieve this is by: 1.
By making friends genuinely and not because of wanting to get them signed up for the next money making opportunity 2.
Being always willing to help rather than always wanting help 3.
Become a thought leader by freely giving out information that you believe your friends can benefit from and ...
4.
Show respect to your friends and people's personal space online.
These might sound too obvious but you will wonder how many people still fall short in these "obvious" ways and create the kind of impressions that they most of the time did not mean to create.
No one is perfect but if we take the conscious effort to treat people with respect and consideration we are more likely to get them to support us even without asking.
So are you doing things right in your business and in your social networking efforts?
