Prevention of Stretch Marks

What are stretch marks? Stretch marks are scars or lines formed in the dermis and epidermis of skin due to excessive expansion of skin against its normal elasticity level.
Stretch marks may vary in hue and size, depending on the skin color and the capacity of body for degeneration and regeneration of body cells.
Stretch marks are common amongst teenage girls, expecting mothers, body builders, people involved in frequent loss or gain of weight.
Prevention of stretch marks involves a set of methods ranging from simple and cheap to complex and expensive.
Prevention of stretch marks is broadly divided into the following areas: Natural methods for stretch marks prevention: It is inclusive of all the methods for which the bearer need not depend on some external link or factor.
  • Creams and moisturizers: Creams containing traces of the two proteins: elastin and collagen can help in restoring the elasticity of the body.
    Instead of a watery base, a viscous cream or moisturizer is advisable.
    Massaging should be done in regular intervals as it helps in increasing the flow of blood in that particular region.
  • Liquid intake: Liquid intake in any form should be improved.
    Remember fluidity of water or any liquid enhances the elasticity of skin.
    Water is a key ingredient in prevention of most of the skin borne problems.
    7-10 glasses of water is recommended daily to replenish and hydrate the body.
  • Proteins: Proteins are the building blocks of our body.
    Addition of proteins should not be supplemented through external intake of protein tablets and capsules.
    It should be included in diet and nutritional chart.
    Vitamins help in building the elasticity of skin.
    Intake of fruits like orange, citrus which are good sources of vitamins should be included in your diet chart.
    Remember healthy eating is healthy living.
  • Yoga: Yoga is a holistic approach towards maintaining a fine balance of body and spirit.
    It increases blood circulation keeping mind fresh and body aglow.
    Keep exercising and ward off all the possibilities of stretch marks.
  • Massage: A natural way to keep skin flexible is massaging body with olive or sesame oil.
    Skin should not be rubbed; it should be massaged before dropping off to bed or before taking bath.
    Use of a soft scrubber helps in the circulation, which further prevents the production of stretch marks.
Remember to prevent your skin from factors contributing to skin dryness and rashness.
Scientific methods: Science has invented numerous techniques for the sufferers of stretch marks.
Although medicine is busy in rendering the solution for removal of stretch marks; but prevention has not come under their consideration yet.
Methods like laser and surgery are not responsible for complete erasure of stretch marks.
Prevention is better than cure: so prevent before you repent.
