How to Make Pretty Paper Boxes

    • 1). Choose a decorative piece of paper from a scrapbooking or craft store. Many craft stores also carry origami paper in various colors and designs. Place the first piece of paper on a flat surface with the decorative side facing down.

    • 2). Take one corner and fold diagonally so that it touches the opposite corner. Run your finger along the fold. This will make a triangle. Fold the paper diagonally once more to make a smaller triangle. Then, unfold the paper and place it face down. The paper will be creased into four sections, with a center cross.

    • 3). Fold one corner of the square so that the point touches the center of the intersecting creases. Then, fold the corner over again so that the straight edge lines up with the center line. Unfold and repeat for each corner. A checkerboard pattern made up of squares is formed by the fold creases.

    • 4). Look at the center crease line. On the crease line to the left of the center line, cut a line two squares down from the top. Repeat this for the crease line to the right of the center line. Do the same thing for the opposite corner of the paper. There will be two small flaps on either side of both corners.

    • 5). Fold the noncut corners so that the point touches the center crease. Then, fold the flaps over the folded corners twice.

    • 6). Push both folded sides up to create a partial box form. These are the sides of the box. Fold the two remaining flaps over the sides to finish the box form.

    • 7). Repeat Steps 1 through 6 to create the box top.

    • 8). Place the last piece of paper face down on a flat surface. Take one straight side and fold it over about 1/4-inch. Turn the paper over and fold the folded side over again another 1/4-inch. Keep doing this, holding the paper folds together, until you have an accordion-like effect.

    • 9). Cut 1/8-inch strips from the folded paper, parallel to the narrow edge. This creates confetti strips to put inside the box. Place all of the accordion strips into the bottom of the box. Squeeze the sides of the bottom box while sliding the top on.
