- The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics includes operations robotics managers among the broad category of "Industrial Production Managers." According to the Bureau's 2010 Employment and Wages report, the median wage for these professionals was $87,160. The middle 50 percent of workers in this category earned between $67,250 and $114,530.
- The top five employers in terms of demand were corporate management, plastics manufacturing, aerospace manufacturing, printing and pharmaceutical manufacturing. All of these industries use robots in the manufacturing process and have need of operations robot managers. Top-paying industries that use robots included oil and gas extraction, petrochemical manufacturing and scientific research---all three of which had annual mean wages in excess of $100,000 for workers in the category.
- Top demand for industrial production managers, including operations robotics managers, was in California, Texas, Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania during 2010. The highest wages were in New Jersey, Texas, New Mexico, Massachusetts and Florida. These top-paying states had annual mean wages between $104,000 and $118,000---between $15,000 and $30,000 above the median wage for workers in this category nationwide.
- The Bureau expects jobs in production management to decline by 8 percent between 2008 and 2018. This is significantly worse than the 8 percent increase anticipated for jobs as a whole in the U.S. However, much of this job loss is credited to increased automation in the production process---meaning operations robotics positions may decline more slowly than other production management positions.
