- "Rock Band 2" differs from "Rock Band" on the Wii because it allows single players to compete in the online "World Tour Mode." "Rock Band 2" has other new features compared, including the ability to purchase songs from the "Rock Band" store and more character customization options.
- "Rock Band 2" allows a player to jump between sets of songs at any point and play downloaded song content from the "Rock Band" store while in "Tour Mode." A training mode is available for drummers and there's a "Solo Mode." Bands (up to four people in one location) can complete "Rock Band 2" songs and have their accomplishments published online.
- Players can import song lists from the original "Rock Band" to "Rock Band 2." Songs included with "Rock Band 2" and songs purchased through the Rock Band Store for "Rock Band 2" are not backwards compatible with the original "Rock Band" game.
- New hair styles, outfits, shoes, tattoos and piercings are available for players looking to customize a character. Players can also link their bands to a Rockband.com account to share pictures about the group online and engage in promotional marketing campaigns for their band.
The "Rock Band 2" controller is modeled after the famous Fender Stratocaster, and its drums have been designed to be more durable and prevent foot pedal breakage. - "Rock Band 2" comes with 84 songs that can be played immediately. They all use the master recordings of the original tracks, which is different from the first "Rock Band" game for Wii that used tracks from live recordings, covers or other sources. The "Rock Band" store features more than 1,400 additional songs. Importing purchased "Rock Band 2" songs is a fast process that integrates the songs into the game's various modes without additional work on the part of the player.
