What Are the Six Types of Christian Dances?

    Dance of Praise

    • The dance of praise is a dance of thankfulness to God. This dance is to an upbeat song. Usually the dancer uses her hands to create large movements and lifts her hands upward or outward to God.

    Dance of Worship

    • The dance of worship is a personal, introspective, intimate dance. It is a dance between the worshiper and God. The dance of worship shows adoration and solemnity. The movements are more personal and show reverence and yielding to God through such gestures as crossing your heart with your hands and swaying.

    Dance of Celebration

    • The dance of celebration is a dance that reflects whatever God has placed in the worshiper's heart. The movements reflect this gift from God. The dance celebrates everything that is good from God. It is full of excitement, and the movements accordingly are large, joyful and highly expressive.

    Dance of Warfare

    Dance of Travail

    • The dance of travail is a dance to help either the dancer or others through moments of discouragement in their lives.Through the dance of travail, the dancer reaches to God and searches for guidance, direction and encouragement. Hands may be either lifted to God or close to the body, and the movements reflect prayer.

    Dance of Prophecy

    • This prophetic dance ministers to a person's heart. It speaks of a specific encouragement, a confirmation of actions or thoughts, or specific directions that the dancer has had placed in her heart. It is a God-given dance. It is similar to the dance of worship in that it is a personal dance between God and the dancer, and the movements reflect communication with God: arms are uplifted and hands are open.
