There are times and places in Dumas when the law expects activity to occur at a lower volume. It's illegal to be loud on a street with a church, school, court or hospital if the noise can be expected to interfere with the functioning of that institution. Construction activities are only allowed to make noise between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays, except for emergency work. Music has to be kept down between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. - Noise-making devices such as horns, bells, whistles and gongs are only allowed to be used to signal danger or the beginning and ending of a work shift.
- All motor vehicles must have a muffler. It's also illegal to make noise from squealing tires or grinding gears in the city limits. Unloading trucks has to be done quietly enough that neighbors are not disturbed.
