- 1). Remove the stems from each flower, leaving the flower heads intact.
- 2). Thread the needle with heavy-duty thread or fishing line.
- 3). Grasp one flower firmly, and push the needle through the center of the flower or through the calyx (green part that attaches to the stem), depending on the flower you've chosen.
- 4). Pull the needle and thread all the way through the flower, and continue to string the other flowers in the same way, until you have a string about 35 to 40 inches long.
- 5). Cut the string from the needle, and tie the ends together tightly. Your lei is ready to wear, and can be stored in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for a couple of days.
