- 1). Use hot water and soap solution to clean the oven hood. Hot water helps dissolve any accumulated grease while the soap makes the grease easier to wipe away. Rinse both the inside and outside of the hood and then wipe dry.
- 2). Apply commercial cleaning products to tackle bigger, dirtier hoods. Purchase kitchen degreasing products at your supermarket or home improvement store. Be careful not to spray any electronic components--aim the degreasing product onto the oven hood. Let it soak for a minute. Wipe away with a sponge or rag, but avoid using abrasive pads because they can ruin the finish.
- 3). Clean the fan blades of the oven hood with warm, soapy water or a degreaser to maintain their efficiency. Dirty fan blades will not circulate the air as effectively and can also result in an over-heated motor.
- 4). Remove the filter from the hood and soak it in degreaser or warm water and suds. Rinse off and dry the filter before you put it back into the hood. You can also use your dishwasher to clean stainless steel or aluminum filters, although be aware that aluminum runs the risk of discoloration with some cleaning agents. Charcoal filters cannot be washed and should be replaced annually.
