Food poisoning is usually caused by eating any contaminated food.

Presence of parasites, viruses or bacteria in your food that you might have taken is one of the main reasons of food poisoning.
Viruses are considered the main cause when you have such poisoning from contaminated food.
A group of viruses called Noro viruses result in an illness usually termed as "stomach flu".
It is usually accompanied by vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache and low fever.
Hepatitis A also causes a milder illness that is usually accompanied by loss of appetite, feeling of tiredness along with onset of fever.
But symptoms will always depend on the amount and type of contaminants that you have eaten.
So it is always advisable to cook your food as well as wash your hands, counter tops and utensils both before and after you handle the raw foods.
It is usually suspected that you have food poisoning after many people fall ill after eating the same meal.
The cause and severity of the food poisoning will decide the kind of treatment you need.
Usually in cases of mild poisoning the doctor may advice to take complete rest and drink only fluids to prevent any dehydration due to diarrhea or vomiting and also recommend you to follow only a specific diet.
One usually takes 1-5 days to recover.
