Criminal Records and American Society of Criminology

The American Society of Criminology, contrary to the implication in the name of the organization, is actually an international organization that is open to many people.
It is one of the best references and sources of information for criminal record background check regardless of where an individual lives and what country is maintained as their place of residence.
The Society was organized in Berkeley, California in December 1941.
The American Society of Criminology embraces scholarly, scientific, and professional knowledge regarding the etiology, prevention, control, and treatment of crime and delinquency.
This includes the measurement and detection of crime, a review of legislation and the practice of criminal law, as well as an examination of the law enforcement, judicial, and correctional systems.
One of the main functions of the Society is to educate people and investigate the many ways in which crime, the criminal element and society are related and dependent upon one another in various manners.
As of date, it it has approximately 3,500 members from nearly 60 countries.
Members include practitioners, academicians, and students across criminal justice and criminology domains.
Interestingly almost sixty-five percent of the members are university professors with specialization in social and behavioral science-based criminological research.
Next biggest block is that of students making up nearly twenty-five percent of the membership, and the rest are employees of public and private entities.
Membership in the American Society of Criminology is open to any person interested in advancing the interests of the field.
The Society publishes two journals and a newsletter.
Receipt of these publications is incorporated in the annual membership fee.
The journal Criminology has been published since 1963.
It is generally regarded as the leading journal in the field, and is distributed widely.
The journal, Criminology & Public Policy has been published since 2001.
The quarterly journal is devoted to the study of crime and justice policy and practice, with the objective of strengthening the role of research findings in the formulation of public policy in these arenas.
