How to Design Your Own iPod Touch Cases

    • 1). Identify your iPod Touch. Consult Apple's iPod product page to determine which generation of the iPod Touch you own. All iPod models vary significantly in size and hardware traits, and the same diversity exists within the iPod Touch product line. Correctly identifying your iPod Touch will ensure that your case gives sufficient coverage to the device and provides easy access to the screen, buttons and inputs.

    • 2). Choose a material for your iPod Touch case. Although it is important to select something that can adequately protect your device, you should opt only for a material that you can feasibly transform into an iPod Touch case. For example, leather and rubber can provide a great buffer for an iPod Touch, but they require a superior skill set to craft. Fabric may be easier to use, but some degree of sewing expertise is essential. Conversely, any iPod Touch owner could probably work with an economical material like cardboard. But while cardboard may not be challenging to manipulate, it is not likely to provide long-term protection.

    • 3). Select a template for your iPod Touch case. Obtain a pattern for your iPod Touch that is suitable for the material of your case. Templates are widely available online and they are usually submitted by other iPod owners who have designed their own cases.

    • 4). Protect your iPod Touch screen. Invest in a protective film that covers your device's touchscreen display, defending it against scratches and other cosmetic blemishes. Because protective films are not significantly thick, their space can easily be accommodated by whatever you use to cover your device.

    • 5). Outfit your iPod Touch case. When creating your own iPod Touch case, you should design an accessory that complements your personal usage and storage habits. Original iPod Touch cases can be customized with arm bands and belt clips. Pockets or clasps can also be added to store headphones.
