It's been about four years now since the remix of the Charity song performed by various artistes was UK's Number one Christmas singles track.
At that time very few people, if any, had any inkling about sub-prime mortgages and credit crunch.
No one would ever have believed that the five biggest Investments banks in the world would be reduced to two in a few years time.
The word recession was like an alien concept that could only happen to third World economies.
Talking about Third World economies, has anyone ever wondered what it would be like in certain Third World Societies if we are facing a recession in the United Kingdom? They don't know what it feels like not to be in a recession because most children under the age of ten were born in one and they have known no other kind of life.
Now, those are the really lucky ones.
Some regions have not known peace for decades.
In some parts of the world gun shots and the noise made my grenade blasts are part of their every day life.
When a family member goes out and doesn't return nobody bothers to look for him or her because that missing member is immediately presumed dead.
We should be lucky that we have a Prime Minister who wants to be seen as tackling the economic crisis.
In some countries their leaders cannot just be bothered.
They are either spending the meagre resources to build a new Presidential Palace or Nuclear weapons.
Those of us in Western Societies should spare a thought for those living in societies where even city dwellers do not have access to constant electricity supply or clean water.
We should spare a thought to those languishing in some remote jail for ridiculous offenses, like 'taking photographs of public buildings' in a country where records don't exist.
This may sound really harsh but the current economic situation in the UK should serve to give us a glimpse of what life is in some other parts of the world.
This Christmas, you may want to consider donating some money to one of those numerous charity organisations that cater for those living under deplorable conditions in other parts of the world.
On the other hand there are other organisations that sell Christmas memorabilia and use the profit to help people living in Third World countries.
Please do something good this Christmas by sparing a thought for those living in situations far worse than you could ever imagine.
