What Are Essential Beliefs?

    Tenets Guiding Christianity

Christians believe in one perfect and eternal God, the Almighty who exists as the Father, Son and The Holy Spirit. They believe Christ sacrificed his life to pay for the sins committed by men. They believe that man was created to be like God, but he was susceptible to sins and lost his track completely. It is only through prayers, undaunted faith in Jesus, and rejuvenation by the Holy Spirit that man can become pure and spiritual once again.

    Basic Principles of Islam

Like Christianity, Islam believes in one god: Allah the creator. Muslims pray five times a day and believe in angels, their holy book called Quran, Prophets and a day of judgment. Muslims fast from sunset to sunrise during the holy month of Ramadan, and believe that fasting is actually true devotion to God. All Muslims must go on a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in their lifetime to attain salvation. Those who are faithful to Allah are fortunate to go to paradise.

    Sacred Beliefs of Hinduism

Hindus believe in one god: the all pervasive, transcendent and immanent Supreme Authority. They believe life is a cycle of creation, followed by preservation and finally dissolution -- a never-ending process. Hindus believe in Karma and that man's actions are responsible for his destiny. The cycle of birth, death and rebirth goes on until Moksha is attained, when all Karmas are finally resolved. Hindus believe that idol-worship, rites and rituals, and sacrifices lead to a communion with God.

The essential principles of Buddhism are based on love, peace, wisdom, non-violence and kindness. Buddhists believe that happiness is attainable, irrespective of class, creed, race, background or age. The four basic beliefs in Buddhism are that the world is full of sorrow, which can be removed by overcoming desires by following the Eight-Fold Path: right faith, right aspiration, right action, right living, right speech, right effort, right meditation and right contemplation. Buddha believed in Nirvana or escape from the cycle of birth, death and rebirth.
