How to Remove the Seat From a 1981 Honda Motorcycle

    Dirt Bike

    • 1). Stabilize the dirt bike on the kickstand or a repair stand.

    • 2). Look under each side of the seat, and locate the bolts that hold the seat to the seat mounts on the upper rail of the motorcycle frame. The seat mounts are semi-circular and are welded to the frame rails.

    • 3). Loosen the bolts at the front and back of the seat on each side by rotating them counterclockwise with a metric socket and ratchet. If the bolts on the dirt bike are frozen, tap the end of the ratchet with a mallet to free them. Remove the bolts, and lift the seat off the motorcycle.

    Street Bike

    • 1). Stabilize the street bike on the kickstand.

    • 2). Locate the seat release clip below one side of the seat. Release the clip by hand, and lift that side of the seat all the way up. The seat should remain in the up position. If it doesn't, use a short piece of wood between the upper rail of the frame, and underside of the seat to hold the seat in the up position.

    • 3). Locate the seat mounts and bolts on the upper rail of the motorcycle frame at the lower side of the seat. Remove the bolts by rotating them counterclockwise with a socket and ratchet, and lift the seat off the motorcycle.
