Type 'cyber school' into the Google search bar and press enter. Don't worry this isn't one of those weird chain messages that promise certain demise if you don't follow what it said, just a interactive example.
When you do that about 63,300,000 results pop up, and many of them are actual virtual schools. How in the world do you choose just one!?!
The way I see it you have about two options.
Either cancel all of your plans for the next six months, install a bathroom, kitchen, bed and exercise station next to your computer because it'll be a while going through all of the results.
OR
Read this blog post...I'll understand if you choose the previous.lol
Online school has about the same importance as choosing any public school you're only looking at different things. For example in public school you have to look at the social aspect, and what the kids are like where as you don't have to do that in an online school. Instead you have to focus more on things like classes offered, fitting it into your schedule and how classes are set up. So here is a list of ten things that are important to focus on when you're looking through virtual schools.
1. Rule out some cyber schools. There are a couple schools that are worldwide, but many others are specific to a state, and in some cases are only offered for a school district.
2. Are Sports Important to you? If you want to continue playing sports while being virtual schooled then it would be wise to make sure your school district and cyber school will allow that.
3. Get a picture of what you want to do when you finish high school. This is an important step in general. Make sure you know what classes and things you will be looking forward to doing in virtual school. Also if you want to have the option of getting ahead and possibly graduating early, you will need an online school that will allow that.
4. What classes do you want to take? Some virtual schools have the ability to offer different classes than the public school norm. You can find some schools with classes like Digital Photograph, Psychology, Philosophy, Theology, HTML, etc. Make sure you have a clear idea of classes you really want to take to narrow your search.
5. What are you going to do with all of your free time? If your main reason for going to virtual school is for a more flexible schedule then make sure your online school will be able to handle that. Many virtual schools have weekly attendance and are very flexible, but other schools have scheduled classes you must attend online.
6. How focused are you? Can you read better through lessons that are wordy and more drawn out or do you prefer straight to the point lessons. It may be hard to figure this out on the schools homepage, and all lessons may be written by different people. If you are concerned about this it would be helpful to ask somebody who has enrolled in the virtual school before about it.
7. How much help do you need? Will you need to have a teacher available to chat with each day, online scheduled classes, and plenty of examples, or are you more self reliant. Some virtual schools (like mine) are set up with a lesson you read and then a test afterward. This can get tough if you aren't self-motivated to learn the concepts.
8. Do you own a computer? Some online schools will provide the students with computers, printers/scanners and financial help.
9. Get a recommendation. If you have any friends or family that also do cyber school it can be very helpful to ask if they would recommend their virtual school school to you. If you trust your friends then you will most likely trust their judgment giving you a sound state of mind.
10. Ask yourself why you are doing cyber school. If you are taking cyber school courses because of bad grades or criminal charges then you may be required by some cyber schools to have your tests proctored. Make sure that will be able to happen without too much fuss.
hopefully you can narrow down your Google search to a reasonable number after reading this. If you have any other questions or thoughts you can let me know in the comments below. Also if you found this beneficial you can 'Like' or 'Plus-One' it, and share it with your friends. Thanks for reading and good luck!
