Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors
Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa antagonists inhibit glycoprotein IIb/IIIa (also referred to as integrin-αIIbβ3), a complex of integrin found on platelets. The activation of the integrin complex enables the binding of fibrinogen, platelet–platelet adhesion, and endothelial adherence. Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors act on this receptor. Figure 5 depicts the effect of glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors on the formation of a platelet plug.

Reversal Agents There are no reversal agents currently indicated for glyocoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors. Platelet transfusions may be offered in adjunct to supportive management. Tirofibran is dialyzable and therefore hemodialysis may also be considered.
