Using All-White Party D?cor

    Fabric Decorations

    • White muslin is a very inexpensive fabric that can be bought in bulk and used in many applications for party decorating. You can use it to make your own tablecloths and napkins by cutting it to the right size and hemming the raw edges. Colored walls can be made white by cutting and hemming wide panels of white fabric and pinning or stringing them along the tops of the walls down to the floor. To make romantic door panels or room dividers, cut narrow strips of white fabric and either hem them or leave the edges frayed. Fold over and sew a seam at the top and string the strips along a wire or string and hang the piece in a doorway. Using white fabric to decorate a room creates a romantic, serene ambiance.

    Paper Decorations

    • Basic white office paper can be used to construct various types of party decorations. Loop narrow strips of white paper together to form a traditional paper chain to hang across walls or from corner to corner across the ceiling of a room. Simple cut-out paper shapes like flowers can be used to make a homemade lei by threading them through the middle with a sharp needle and white thread. Simple origami shapes folded from white paper can be strung together in a similar manner to create an unusual garland. White paper fans made by pleating a sheet of paper or thin card-stock and securing the pleats at the bottom make easy but pretty decorations. White paper lanterns can be bought fairly inexpensively.

    Table Decorations

    • Centerpieces made with white candles or strings of white lights are good lighting options for a white theme. Clear glass jars can hold white candles safely, or you could spray paint the outsides of terracotta flower pots or empty aluminum cans to make candle holders. If you use an awl and hammer to pierce a simple design in the sides of the cans the candle light will flicker through with a pretty effect. White flowers like orchids, lily of the valley, white roses or fuscia make beautiful centerpieces if your budget allows for it. Cut flowers can be arranged in clear glass vases with white or clear glass beads, or living plants can be repotted in plant pots that you have spray-painted white. Any bought centerpieces or an arrangement of attractive objects and ornaments can be spray-painted entirely white to match the party theme--a couple of coats should cover any previous colors. All-white china or paper plates and dishes are widely available, and clear glassware will match the decor without detracting from the look.
