- 1). Write a statement attesting that you have sold your vehicle to the buyer for the agreed sum of money. Use your full name and the buyer's full name as well. Include the vehicle identification number. Include the odometer reading. Mention any specific terms you have negotiated, such as whether any part of the sale price will be paid at a later date or whether the sale is contingent on a buyer's check. Make duplicate copies of the bill of sale.
- 2). Sign and date both copies of the bill of sale, and ask the buyer to sign them as well. Keep one copy for your records and give them the other copy to use when registering the car in their name.
- 3). Complete the lower portion on the reverse side of the vehicle's title attesting to the fact that ownership of the vehicle has changed hands. Mail your portion of the title to your state's vehicle licensing agency within fifteen days of the sale.
