We tend to live in a disposable age where nothing gets repaired.
If something breaks or we are tired of it we do not look to fix it.
We simply throw it away and buy new.
But some things need to be taken seriously.
- Education is not necessarily about being a good student at school.
Many people pass more exams after they leave school and those qualifications are important because they were taken voluntarily, we wanted to study those subjects.
Keeping our skills up-to-date is important through continuous professional development.
But also education is gained through reading good quality newspapers, watching documentaries, being interested and alert about what is happening around us and in the world at large.
- Job.
Work needs to be treated with respect.
Whether we work for a company or are self-employed, somebody is handing over their money to pay for our goods or services.
They deserve our respect and commitment to doing a good job.
And we owe it to ourselves to gain satisfaction and fulfilment from a the results of our labours.
- Reputation is important.
Either professionally or personally it is good to be regarded in a positive light by others.
Being seen to be fun is important but being seen regularly in a frivolous unprofessional way can be damaging to our reputation in a way that is hard to recover.
Paying attention to what we say or do can be especially important at times.
We need to take our reputation seriously.
- Health can be taken for granted, especially by the young.
But investing in our health can be beneficial in later life.
Try to sleep regular hours.
That way sleep patterns avoid becoming disrupted and erratic.
Eating healthily, exercising and being aware of the volume of alcohol consumption is important.
Listen to your body.
Headaches, irritability, miscellaneous aches and pains can be symptoms of stress.
Get to know your body and become aware of when you need to take a break.
- Family can be the last people on our list when we are busy.
They may well be the reason why we work as hard as we do, but family need to be aware of their importance to us.
Sometimes cancelling a meeting to go and watch a school play or a football match can be really important to our children.
They crave our attention and approval.
Making the time to give that attention is really important.
And children grow up so very quickly.
There are no second chances if we miss the first.
- Special relationships need to be taken seriously.
By demonstrating care, interest and concern we keep our relationships alive and fresh.
People need to feel cared for and important to us.
By taking time with the important people in our lives we show that they matter to us and that we respect them.
If there is disharmony we promptly demonstrate that we take it seriously and take the time to consider their point of view, negotiate and find a resolution.
There are many areas of life that are important to us, that deserve to be taken seriously.
By giving them the respect and concern that they warrant these areas can provide us with much fun, satisfaction and fulfillment.
