Breathing and Yoga Pranayama

Everyone breathes all the time, but few people recognize just how important this function is in their lives.
Sure, we all know that breathing keeps us alive, but it goes far beyond that.
Breathing is the only way to get oxygen into our bodies, and it is the only way for us to remove many things from our bodies that would be toxic to us if we held them in.
In yoga, breathing is a fundamental component of the entire exercise routine, and it helps in many more ways than just staying alive.
When you practice yoga, you learn to discipline yourself in the way you breathe, maximizing the benefits of each and every breath you take.
When you take in the fullest amount of oxygen, it provides a much needed boost to your brain and nervous system.
These rely on oxygen for everything they do, and when the brain does not receive enough oxygen the body becomes stressed, and you lose clarity of thought.
However, when the brain receives a rich supply of oxygen, you achieve mental clarity and relaxation as only yoga can provide.
There are many forms of yoga, and with each comes a focus on breathing.
In yoga, breathing exercises are referred to as Pranayama.
These Pranayama exercises are performed with the Asanas, or poses.
Depending on the type of yoga you are practicing, there may be some variations to the breathing methods you will use.
It would be helpful to find out what specific breathing differences are part of your particular routine.
It is important to remember that breathing is a life function we must have to survive, and that improper breathing leads to poor physiological and mental function.
Practicing yoga will teach you how to breath properly and to fully reap the benefits of your yoga experience.
It is essential that proper breathing accompany the exercise, or the yoga exercises will not be effective and you will not be able to reach your goals.
You will find that the exercises become easier when you breathe properly.
You will also experience relaxation and clarity of mind like you never knew was possible.
