SMoCA Family Mix


 On Sunday, May 10, 2015 from noon to 3 p.m. Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) invites families to see the Museum completely transformed by local street artists and dancers for SMoCA Family Mix. To experience this special adventure, where street art moves inside, all adults must be accompanied by a child (and all children must bring an adult!) to discover the Museum's celebration of community-inspired art and dance. SMoCA's galleries will be interactive environments, full of murals, projections and music, and will inspire each participant to dance and be dazzled by the large-scale artwork. Explore unique arts & crafts activities where children can create customized skull masks in the style of characters in the murals and participate in a community mural. Other activities include using stencils and neon color to make a card for Mom that glows, and making tiny skateboards. Children can also participate in a dance demonstration and class taught by in instructor from CYPHERS The Center for Urban Arts and leave the event knowing how to BeBop with the best. The afternoon also features temporary tattoos, neon bracelets, and tasty treats from local food trucks. Free admission. Shakespeare at the Garden presents SpellBound!, A Musical Fairy Tale


An adaptation of Shakespeare’s lesser-unknown tragi-comedy Cymbeline, produced by Southwest Shakespeare Company in partnership with Desert Botanical Garden. The sunset performances amid the drama of the landscape of the Garden’s event plaza will be on May 7 – 10, 14 – 17 and 21 – 24, 2015.  SpellBound! is the story of an evil stepmother and a father who is not much better, a wronged love, jealousy, revenge, magic potions, a poison apple, villains in disguise, a valiant heroine, all culminating in a live battle onstage. General seating tickets are $35 for Desert Botanical Garden members and Southwest Shakespeare Company subscribers and $40 for the general public.  Reserved table seating is available (four guests per table) at $50 - $60 per person for Garden members and Southwest Shakespeare subscribers and $55 - $65 for the general public.
