I had not built a garden shed before so the first thing I did was to get a good set of outdoor garden shed plans.
There are quite a few things to take into consideration when planning your shed and I'll list just a few here:-
- If your area liable to suffer from heavy snowfalls in the winter you made need a stronger roof, a flat roof may not be ideal at all.
- Strong winds would require you to use better fixings, tie downs etc.
- Security, if your area is prone to burglary sheds are always a target forpetty thieves looking for stuff to unload at flea markets? If this is the case a good solid door and heavy padlock would be essential.
- If it get really hot during the summer months you may have to vent the roof so as not to overheat the inside. Also you will need to consider what roofing felt and sealants will be ideal.
- Use treated timber for the construction and good sealants and paints.
A good set of outdoor garden shed plans should cover all the above requirements and more. Some will include other projects that you might like to have a go at.
I would seriously recommend that having decided on the size of your new shed that you consider if it will be big enough for your needs or next year could see you without enough space for new acquisitions.
