Larger Sized Dogs That Make For Great Pets

When it comes to finding the right dog for your home, there are no doubt myriad options to choose from.
I am personally a fan of bigger dogs and as such, this article will focus on larger canines.
Over the years, I have had 10 dogs, some good and some not so much.
Here is my list of some of the best larger breeds of dogs to add as a member of your family.
I will start with the German Shepherd.
These dogs range in size, but are generally between 65 and 100 pounds.
They make for a great guard dog and are incredibly loyal creatures.
Just be careful bringing the German Shepherd around strangers for the first time.
Another great large canine for the whole family is the Rottweiler.
The Rottweiler has a reputation as being a vicious dog, but this is a stereotype.
These dogs are actually great with children, as long as they are raised around children.
They are very protective, smart and loving.
The Bull Mastiff is another dog, which I have a special love for.
This is a dog that you should only be considering if you have a large home, as these dogs are usually between 160 and 200 pounds! Sure.
they can be messy, but are also incredibly loving animals.
Outside the realm of common canines is the Dogue De Bordeaux.
I grew up with one of these animals, which can also be described as a French mastiff.
If you have ever seen the movie Turner and Hooch, then you know what a Dogue De Bordeaux looks like.
One other great protective large dog is the Akita.
This is a Japanese dog that while sheds aggressively, only needs to be groomed once or twice a year.
The shedding is seasonal and unless you have allergies should not be a sticking point in considering the Akita.
Hopefully you learned something new about larger sized canines and if you are considering a big dog, these are some of the best options.
