- 1). Check the "Smart Dialing" option on your Blackberry Pearl if you cannot send calls. "Smart Dialing" allows you to specify a default country code and area code. If this code does not match the country or area code you are in, the phone will not send calls unless you manually enter both the country code and area code. To access "Smart Dialing," press the "Menu" key and select "Options," and "Smart Dialing." Set your default country code and area code in the "Country Code" and "Area Code" fields. Click "Save" to save your settings.
- 2). Verify that "Call Blocking" is turned off if you cannot receive any calls. Press the "Menu" key and select "Options," and "Call Barring." Highlight the call blocking option and press the "Menu" key again. This opens another list of options. Select "Disable" from this list to turn off call blocking.
- 3). Change the phone number on your SIM card if your phone number appears as "Unknown" on the Blackberry. Making changes to the SIM card phone number does not make changes to your actual phone number. It only changes the way the number is displayed on your phone. To do this, press "Menu" and select "Options" and then "Advanced Options." Press the "Menu" key again and select "Edit SIM Phone number." Type in your phone number and click the trackball to save your settings.
- 4). Check your picture settings if you cannot save pictures to your Blackberry. If the setting is set to "Superfine" the images may take up too much memory. To change picture settings, press "Menu" and then "Options." Change the picture quality by pressing the trackball in the "Picture Quality" field. Press the "Menu" button again and select "Save."
- 5). Reset your Blackberry Pearl if the phone is frozen and not responding. Remove the battery and wait a few seconds. Then reinsert the battery and turn the phone back on.
