How to Design Your Own Logo for a Shirt

    • 1). Download and install some graphic arts software to make your logo with. There are a lot of really good programs out there that you could use for this type of project depending on your budget. If you have some extra cash you can spend you should purchase Adobe Photoshop. This is a top of the line program that has every tool you could possibly need to create a great logo for your business or team. If you don't have any money, try a program like GIMP. GIMP is a lot like Photoshop, but it doesn't have as many of the professional tools that Photoshop offers. The plus side is that GIMP is free.

    • 2). Draw your logo out on paper if you have good drawing skills or go on the Internet and purchase pictures to manipulate and create your logo with. You can start a good logo using either of these methods. If you already have an idea for an originally drawn out logo that you want to make more professional then you will need to use a scanner and upload your artwork to the computer so you can open it in your editing software. If you planned on doing the logo completely digitally then you can purchase some pictures at stock photo websites like iStock and manipulate the photo to help create your logo.

    • 3). Open a new file in your editing software program with the dimensions of 600 x 600 pixels. This is going to be the background for your logo, and in order to make sure it fits properly on your t-shirt you have to make sure the picture is sized correctly. If the shirt is not sized correctly it will look distorted when you or others purchase the t-shirts.

    • 4). Select the rectangular marquee tool and highlight the whole background picture. Right click in the middle of your blank background and click "Fill." From here choose the color you would like your background to be. Keep in mind the overall color scheme of what you want the rest of the logo to look like. You want to make sure the colors don't clash and create an awkward looking logo.

    • 5). Open up a picture or the piece of artwork you would like to make your logo and cut it out of the rest of the picture. Click "Filter" and then "Extract." Once the menu is opened up, select the "Highlighter" tool and highlight the outline of the part of the picture you want to cut out. After the highlighting is done select the fill tool and fill and click inside the part you outlined. Click "OK" and it will remove the part of the photo you want to keep.

    • 6). Select the move tool and drag the cut out picture to the background you created. Now you can position the picture and resize the image to fit the background perfectly. Once you have it sized correctly, move the photo or main part of the logo to the position you would like it to have on the background.

    • 7). Add a text box that will contain part of your company, organization, or team name. You can use any font you download on your computer and in any size so that you can match your logo. You can also warp the text to make it fit around the logo.

    • 8). Save your logo as a .PNG file. This will preserve the most quality of the picture and keep it from looking distorted.

    • 9). Visit CafePress online and create a free account. CafePress will allow you to place any type of logo or design on t-shirts and sell them to others, or just to buy some for yourself. They have tools also that will help you make sure that the picture or logo fits perfectly on the type of t-shirt you want and will ensure you get a quality product.
