How to Troubleshoot the VIZIO VW42L

    • 1). Press the "Power" button from the TV to eliminate the possibility of the remote not working. If the TV turns on when directly pressing the power button on the TV, but not from the remote, then the problem is with the TV's remote control. Change the batteries or purchase a replacement remote if it's broken. Check the power cord to make sure it is plugged in correctly. Plug another electrical device (such as a radio) into the power outlet to confirm the outlet is working. This is for troubleshooting a TV that will not turn on.

    • 2). Check the audio wires to make sure they are properly connected. If the "Mute" symbol is present on the screen, press the "Mute" button to make the mute symbol disappear. Check the audio settings to make sure the TV is not set to "SAP" or "Speakers Off." Press the "volume up" button on the remote until you can hear the TV. Unplug any headphones that are connected to the TV.

    • 3). Check the cable connections to make sure they are tightly connected to the correct inputs on the back of the TV. Adjust the brightness and contrast to make the screen brighter. Make sure the correct input is selected. This is for troubleshooting your TV when the TV is on but there is no picture.
