- 1). Remove the negative battery cable from the battery.
- 2). Remove the wing nut holding the air cleaner assembly to the carburetor.
- 3). Lift the air cleaner body to reveal any hoses attached to it. Label the hoses by marking a piece of tape and placing it on the hose, and marking and placing another piece of tape next to the hose connection it was removed from. Remove the hoses.
- 4). Remove the air cleaner assembly.
- 5). Mark any hoses connected to the carburetor with tape and remove them.
- 6). Remove the throttle cable. If it's a snap on type, simply pull it loose from the carburetor. If it's an eyelet type, remove the pin holding the washer and cable eyelet on with needle nose pliers and slide them off the arm. If it's a barrel end cable type, push the throttle arm back to create slack in the cable, and twist the end of the cable sideways in its slot until the barrel and cable can slide out of its mount.
- 7). Remove the choke linkage. Lift up on the snap ring holding the choke arm to the carburetor and slide it off the arm. Slide the arm out of the carburetor and lay it to the side.
- 8). Remove any return springs if they are connected from the carburetor to the intake manifold by simply lifting them off their pegs.
- 9). Place a rag under the fuel line to catch the fuel that may spill. Use a line wrench to loosen the nut holding the fuel line to the carburetor. Remove the fuel line from the carburetor and carefully push it to the side without bending the metal line.

Remove the bolts or nuts holding the carburetor to the manifold with a socket wrench and lift the carburetor off the intake manifold keeping it level to avoid spilling fuel.
