How strange were the strangest transport contracts you ever signed on to? The chances are high that if you rack your brains youll think of one or two before too long. However, we also think you wont be able to beat some of the unusual and strange loads weve found evidence of in other parts of the world.
Just when you thought it couldnt get stranger, it does.
Delivering a person and an unusual surprise
The thought was there, in that the gentleman concerned wanted to provide his girlfriend with a wonderful surprise. "Ill send myself to her hidden in a box", he thought. "Shell get a lovely surprise when she opens it to find me in there." But what happened next illustrates why human cargo doesn't generally figure in transport contracts. The box was collected by the driver ready packed, so he had no idea what (or in this case who) he was carrying. The journey took several hours and by the time the delivery was made, one very poorly boyfriend gave his girlfriend a surprise alright! Since he hadnt given himself any air holes through which to breathe, its not surprising his treat didnt work out the way he thought it would. Happily, the man reportedly recovered; one wonders if his relationship did!
How many apples can you fit in a car?
Answer well, youd have to take a look at the picture were describing and hazard a guess yourself. Transport contracts may regularly involve the transportation of fruit and vegetables, but this doesnt normally happen in a regular car. This example (from somewhere in Europe) features several crates of apples tied to the car roof, while the view through the back window shows the inside of the car is literally crammed to the brim with loose apples. Needless to say visibility was rather poor for the driver, and one suspects he was not a professional fulfilling his transport contracts or let's hope not!
Log rolls
The same question might apply to this example too: just how many logs can you fit in a car? One driver in Eastern Europe decided it would be a good idea to find out! It appears this bright spark filled the back seat and the boot with hewn logs (presumably for firewood, but who really knows?) securing the boot open so they didnt fall out. He then wedged some more logs between the upper side of the boot and the back window. Of course, there was a chance that the logs may have dislodgedso he got a friend to sit on top of the lot while he drove the car. No word on the result but we're guessing it wasn't pretty.
You really couldnt make these up, could you? Transport contracts cover all manner of interesting loads and deliveries, but when it comes to individuals and the methods of transport they have available to them, it seems anything goes.
