Okay so, as an entrepreneur built from scratch, I can tell you that over the years, I've come to want to very much challenge past period leadership models, education and training formats, project management strategies, and almost every theory and model, mathematical or otherwise of chaos, complexity, cascading collapse, systemic risk, social networking, incentive bonuses, change management, executive grooming and recruitment, manufacturing processes, employee buy-in, management by objectives, as well as all the re-hashed and relabeled concepts of innovation, creative work environments, research and development, and future prediction forecasting.
Why you ask, well because in the 1980s after quitting college to run my business, I read every business book I could get my hands on, I went to bookstores, garage sales, libraries, and used book sales.
At one time my personal business library (business books only) was over 4,000 titles.
That's a lot of books, no I didn't read all of them, probably not even most of them, but I did read a lot of well over 1500 of them.
After a while I got the impression that most were just regurgitations of previous works, where the most recent business buzz words were changed to prove them special to the readers.
By the mid-90s I'd convinced myself of this, as all those books too were merely the same.
Today, with social networking and the computer age we have yet another round of books, not much in the way of business philosophy has changed, basic same theories, although now we have an abundance of new buzzwords, in fact they create more each quarter and if you blink, there are more in your email inbox - what does it all mean? It means that reading books isn't enough, you have to get out and do it.
Sticking to the MBA way, well it isn't the only way, and to be a leader in the field occasionally you are going to have to take some risks or you risk running redline around the same track with the same type of care, and going in the same direction as all your competitors.
Might I be so bold as to say; there is no honor in that, and even less profit.
Anyway, if you'd like to discuss your topic and subject matter deeper, I'd be willing to do that and you can reach me by email.
Perhaps, you might find yourself in the midst of other seasoned entrepreneurs with a wide range of different experiences other than your own? Each entrepreneur comes from their own set of observations and life-path.
For instance, my former experiences would be coming from flying, modeling, motorcycle racing, team sports, competitive running, long-distance bike riding, small business, branding, marketing, prototype development, engineering, franchising, speaking, writing, inventing and innovation, personal studies of the human endeavor, problem solving, and thinking.
Interestingly enough, I believe that running and founding a franchising company is perhaps the most challenging profession an entrepreneur might undertake in our modern era, as it encompasses unlimited variables.
Okay so, let me know if you want your ideas kicked-around a little more, challenged, and honed into perfection for your next great entrepreneurial endeavor, until then, I hope you will please consider some of my thoughts here today.
