Who Installs Mud Bed in a Shower Installation?

    Identification

    • A mud bed is a construction technique to create a slope to a shower floor to direct the eventual water flow into the drain. It is built with roofing felt, wire mesh and a mortar mixture on top.

    Considerations

    • Typically, the shower construction contractor installs the mud bed. Though it can be done by a homeowner, the process is tedious. It requires strict calculations to ensure the slope does not have any anomalies to hinder water drainage.

    Warning

    • Make sure to go over the construction timing with the individual contractor. Constructing a quality mud bed and complete shower should take from 10 to 12 days. If the contractor quotes a much smaller time frame, the mud bed may not be constructed correctly, compromising the quality of the entire shower assembly.
