- 1). Lay newspaper on a flat surface to create a working area. Place the cardboard piece on the newspaper.
- 2). Make an oval approximately 3 inches in length on the cardboard to serve as a blade for the propeller. Outline a second oval of the same size to form the second blade. The first oval's right, narrower side should touch the second oval's left, narrower side. Draw a circle with a 1-inch diameter at the point where the two shapes meet. The center point of the circle should be the same as the point the two ovals share. The shape formed by the ovals and circle together form the propeller.
- 3). Cut the outline of the ovals and circles together carefully without cutting the three shapes apart.
- 4). Use a paintbrush to paint the propeller shape with gray or black paint. Allow the paint to set until it is dry to the touch. Turn the cardboard over and paint the other side. Allow the paint to dry.
- 5). Straighten the outside end of the paper clip to form a long side. Unbend the inside end of the paper clip to form a "U" shape with one side longer than the other.
- 6). Poke two holes with one end of the paper clip in the center of the cardboard propeller.
- 7). Slide the paper clip into the two holes until the paper clip rests against one side of the propeller.
- 8). Bend the ends of the paper clip slightly outward. Insert the paper clip ends into a straw that will serve as the propeller's shaft. The bended ends secure the paper clip to the straw.
- 9). Hold the straw between your hands and move your hands in opposite directions simultaneously to spin off the propeller into the air.
