Losing belly fat really isn't rocket science.
The reason most people aren't successful in permanently losing belly fat, or any fat for that matter, is they quit too soon.
We live in an age of instant gratification and we expect what took us a couple of years to add on to our bellies to go away with three weeks of starving and exercise.
As you probably already know, that just doesn't work.
Okay the "Turtle Method" might be kind of a reach for an article title but it's based on the idea that slow and steady wins the race.
Up until now your diet efforts have probably been like the Rabbit's race technique.
Furious activity and then resting before you get to the finish line.
What I'm suggesting is you forget about the finish line and just accomplish small tasks each day.
Start out with an easily obtainable goal like "I will not eat fast food one day a week".
How tough is that? Then schedule some practical exercise like cleaning the house or washing the car rather than taking it to a car wash.
Start setting up a schedule for these events.
Mark down on the calendar what day you won't eat fast food and what day you'll clean the house and when re you going to wash the car.
Slowly start adding other achievable goals to your calendar.
How difficult is it to drink at least 5 glasses of water a day.
Maybe you cancel home delivery of the newspaper and walk the 5 minutes to the 7-11 and 5 minutes back each day.
If you can refrain from eating fast food one day a week, how big a stretch is it to go two days.
Remember the goal is not focused on losing so many pounds of belly fat in so many days.
The goal is to live healthier each day.
Social scientists say it takes doing something consistently for 90 days before it becomes a habit.
They also say the best way to break a habit is to create a new one.
You've had so many bad lifestyle habits for so long don't expect to break them all right away.
However you are on the road to creating a new healthy habit and if you just focus on daily goals you'll be surprised at the results.
Maybe getting the paper is incorporated as the last stop of your daily 30 minute morning walk.
Maybe fast food is a once a week reward now instead of an everyday intake of grease, fat and sodium.
For sure you're going to need to take the money you saved on fast food and car washes and buy new pants because your old ones are too big.
Losing belly fat is not the goal.
Living healthy is.
However, the great side effect of living healthy is...
losing belly fat.
