While it is normal for people to experience nervousness before giving a wedding speech, some people suffer more serious consequences such as anxiety attacks.
Though there are no tried-and-true cures for on-stage fright, these tips will help you become more fluent and overcome your difficulties in speaking while on stage.
First, try to stay calm and relax when you're working on your wedding speech.
Naturally you'll have mood swings through the day, and stress happens to all of us, from time to time.
You don't have to try to eliminate all your stress at once.
Start by practicing speaking when you can be calm and relaxed, when you can really let go and just practice speaking.
Be patient with yourself and understand that you're just practicing.
Practice as much as you can, as if you were practicing for the Olympics.
When you practice, write down what you want to say, so you don't have to remember it, and take deep breaths to stay calm and relaxed.
This makes it much easier to speak fluently.
Going back to the Olympics analogy, understand that attaining fluency as a speaker takes time and practice.
The more you practice when you are calm and relaxed, and the more you take the time to really work on your nervousness, the sooner you will be fluent most of the time.
Also understand that you are going to falter from time to time but always remember that practice makes perfect.
Watch for words that block you and practice more on them.
Look back at any serious falters and see if you can find a way to reproduce them and overcome those obstacles in practice.
While practicing sounds very simple, it's not easy.
You probably will not enjoy all of your practice time.
You'll have other things that you want to do and will find it tedious and wish you didn't have to do it.
You know something? Olympic athletes feel that all the time and still get out and practice.
That's why they make it to the Olympics.
They want it more than they don't want it.
And that's how you'll become fluent.
If you truly want it, more than you want the spare time or the sleep or the television show, if you want it enough to practice even when you don't want to, you will become fluent.
You'll go to your own Olympics because you want it more than anything.
That's what it takes, and when you do that, you'll be able to overcome your stage fright when delivering your wedding speech.
