Grants in Kentucky for Youth

    WHAS Crusade for Children

    • Louisville-based television station WHAS runs the Crusade for Children organization, which offers annual grants to organizations helping Kentucky youth. Specifically, these grants go to nonprofit organizations, schools and hospitals that help special needs youth under the age of 18. The grants aim to help with a specific need, like purchasing equipment or funding programs, for special needs children. Organizations interested in applying for the grant must send an application request letter to WHAS Crusade for Children.

    The Keeneland Foundation

    • Lexington, Kentucky's Keeneland horse race track funds grants made available by The Keeneland Foundation. Grant money comes from profits the track makes at its annual racing events. The Keeneland Foundation grants focus on a number of specific areas, one of which is education. Therefore, nonprofit organizations that educate and help youth can apply for these annual grants. The cause must benefit Central Kentucky youth, and the foundation often targets equipment purchases and scholarship funds.

    Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky

    • The Louisville-based Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky aims to distribute grants that address unmet health-care needs of Kentuckians. Nonprofit organizations and governmental agencies that help improve the health of Kentucky youth can apply for these grants. Applying organizations should focus on improving community health of youth or youth access to health care. The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky accepts grant proposals once it releases a Request for Proposals. There is no standard application for these grants.

    Kentucky State Police

    • The Kentucky State Police issue grants to help fight underage drinking. Organizations with a focused effort on reducing underage drinking, from nonprofit organizations and faith-based groups to schools, can apply for these grants. Applicants must research and identify an underage drinking problem and have an effective plan in place to combat the underage drinking. The Kentucky State Police "grade" applications on a 100-point scale, and the organization with the highest score earns the grant money.
