- 1). Cover the plywood on your roof with the tar paper, making sure the paper overlaps the edge of the roof by about five inches to prevent leaks.
- 2). Attach the tar paper to the plywood using a staple gun, ensuring there are no creases or bumps in the paper.
- 3). Cut the tabs off all composite tiles you need for the first row of roofing using a utility knife.
- 4). Nail each tile (or shingle, as they are also known) in the first row to the plywood, ensuring that each tile overlaps the eaves by about 1/2 inch. This will prevent water from entering the building.
- 5). Nail the next row of shingles to the plywood so that it overlaps the first row by 1 inch. Repeat this process until the roof is complete.
